Curriculum

What is High Scope?

High Scope is a curriculum that is research based. It has been in use and widely practiced since the 1990's. It may seem similar to Montessori and other curriculums that are fairly common in preschool settings. We supplement the routines and practices of High Scope with Mother Goose Time which will begin June 2021.

The factors that make High Scope our curriculum of choice were philosophical. We want our students to have the greatest foundations for their futures. We want high quality care. We want a high level of academic achievement with play and enjoyment of their early childhood and childhood experience.

Early Learning Goals

Missouri utilizes a framework of Early Learning Goals that we closely adhere to. We utilize an observational assessment framework (no tests) to track milestones, development, and meeting of the goals.

Our teachers are committed to engaging in the student's learning through play to observe and recognize what our students need to learn to further meet scholastic goals.

The Early Learning Goals are meant to ensure students are ready for Kindergarten. We further push and engage our students by pursuing Common Core Standards as our students reach mastery of the Early Learning Goals.

All our "assessments" are observational. We use some worksheets and paper based learning, but primarily we focus on hands-on learning and our teacher's observing the student's work and learning. We provide reports to our parents of Early Preschooler's and Preschooler's monthly.

For all our learning activities we use the same philosophies and outline as in the High Scope Curriculum framework. Our students Plan, Do and Review.

Our Early Preschool and Preschool classes will have a 3 week activity block. Activities might be Seasons, Holidays around the World, Our World, Plants, Colors, Farms, Magnetism, Animals, Ecosystems, Camping, Transportation, Robots, Coding, Water Cycle, Cooking, Nutrition, Manners, etc. At the beginning of the activity block information will be sent home to the parents so you know what we are looking at.

The focus of the activity is based on a survey of the class. The students tell us their interests. We plan as a class what we want to learn. We plan some activities, experiments, and learning guidelines. Then the students Do those activities, experiments and guidelines. We subsequently review the actions.

We use the same Plan, Do, Review sequence in a daily routine.

Our Common Core

When our students in Preschool classes are ready for further learning, we move from Early Learning Goals to the Common Core Standards embraced by Missouri schools. For our school age students, we track their successes and their learning according to the Common Core Standards.

All our "assessments" are observational. We use some worksheets and paper based learning, but primarily we focus on hands-on learning and our teacher's observing the student's work and learning. We provide reports to our parents of Early Preschooler's and Preschooler's monthly and every 6 weeks for our school age students.

For all our learning activities we use the same philosophies and outline as in the High Scope Curriculum framework. Our students Plan, Do and Review.
